    My Week in Review

Monday, January 21, 2008, 11:42 AM PST [my blog]

What a week to live in San Diego!! I know we're all disappointed in the outcome of yesterday's Chargers game, but I'm also grateful for the experience. This town was buzzing all week long, and even if the Bolts didn't get the win, they gave us all something to rally around for a week in time. Thanks Chargers.

I'm eating a Tuna sandwich as I write this. I've been doing a little trimming down lately. Nothing extreme..just eating healthier and getting more exercise. I've  kicked up my MMA training a bit, and am now  splitting time between  Alliance  in Chula Vista and  Throwdown in San Diego. Both places are great , and training is a lot more fun than running on a treadmill.  If you have any questions about it, don't hesitate to drop me a line.

Other than that..I don't "diet." It's been years since I went on any kind of strict eating program. When I feel like it's time to ditch some chub, I just start eating healthier and following some personal guidelines.

#1 I make sure there is plenty of healthy and easy to prepare foods in the house. I know that I'm most tempted to eat bad stuff when I'm hungry, so I never  let myself get hungry. Some things I like to have around are:

    Plenty of healthy luncmeat.

    Fruit and vegetables.

    Hard boiled eggs.

Lean beef jerkey or turkey jerkey.

A few healthy frozen meals (although I try to avoid eating those often)

Big bags of chicken breasts from Costco.

    Low fat cottage cheese.

I also have some "protein shake" mix and healthy snack bars (my favorites are the South Beach Diet ones)

    #2 I never skip breakfast

#3- I eat three meals and at least two snacks per day.

#4- I drink a lot of water. How much? I don't know..just jeep drinking it all day.

#5- I limit my "processed carbs" at dinner. Which means I eat vegetables, salads, etc. But rarely have pasta, bread etc. The exception is brown rice.

#6- I don't follow any of these ruled perfectly nor do I expect myself to. (especially on weekends.)

That's it in a nutshell. Whenever I follow those guidelines and mix in some exercise, it works for me. Any that's what's important..finding what works best for you!

My week in Eating- I just covered this didn't I? Actually Lindsey and I ate at Gordon Bierch on Friday Night.  That place is always solid, and they have a brand new menu! The bar-b-que'd salmon is the bizness. Yesterday morning we had brunch..at Souplantation! Who knew they had brunch?! It was actually pretty good to! Tonight I'm gonna make us a healthy stir fry since we both ate and drank like crap all weekend!

My week in tv- Not too much to report here other than sports. There was a decent UFC on Saturday. Shout out to San Diego's own Jason Lambert from North County Fight club.  I didn't get the win, but he still made SD proud!

My Week in Movies- Buy "Shoot Em Up!" Okay, not everyone...but if you like over the top action (I'm talking Kill Bill over the top) you'll love this movie. It stars Clive Owen as the hero Paul Giamati as the villain and it's a FUN movie that most people slept on when it was in theaters.

My Week in Books- I read Mind Set by John Naisbitt. This guy wrore a non-fiction book (Megatrends) in the early nineties where he predicted a bunch of things that would change in the world over the next decade. He's not a psychic, he made his predictions by observing trends in society. Well allmost all the his predictions came true. He wrote another one (called "Megatrends 2000) in 2000  and it was astonishingly accurate. He feels he is able to  spot such things, largely because of the way he looks at things. So in Mind Set he shares 11  mindsets that give a  different perspective on the world around you. Really interesting stuff!

That's all I've got for now. Happy Martin Luther King Day.
