Most Of What I Needed To Know I Learned In
Kindergarten...
Most of what I really need to know about how to live, and
what to
do, and how to be, I learned in kindergarten. Wisdon was
not at
the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the
sandbox
at nursery school.
These are the things I learned: share everything. play
fair.
don't hit people. put things back where you found them.
clean
up your own mess. Don't take things that aren't
yours. Say
you're sorry when you hurt somebody. Wash your hands
before you
eat. flush. warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
live a
balanced life. Learn some and think some and draw and
paint and
sing and dance and play and work everyday some.
Take a nap every afternoon. When you go out into the
world,
watch for traffic, hold hands and stick together. be
aware of
wonder. Remember the little seed in the plastic cup. the
roots
go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or
why,
but we are all like that.
Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little
seed in the
plastic cup...they all die. So do we.
And then remember the book about Dick and Jane and the first
word you
learned, the biggest word of all: LOOK. Everything you need
to know is
there somewhere. The Golden Rule and love and basic
sanitation. Ecology
and politics and sane living.
Think of what a better world it would be if we all...the
whole world...had
cookies and milk about 3 o'clock every afternoon and then
lay down
with our blankets for a nap. or if we had a basic policy
in our nation and
other nations to always put things back where we found
them and cleaned up our
own messes. and it is still true, no matter how old you
are, when you go
out into the world , it is best to hold hands and stick
together.

My Week in Review
What a week to live in San Diego!! I know we're all disappointed in the outcome of yesterday's Chargers game, but I'm also grateful for the experience. This town was buzzing all week long, and even if the Bolts didn't get the win, they gave us all something to rally around for a week in time. Thanks Chargers.
I'm eating a Tuna sandwich as I write this. I've been doing a little trimming down lately. Nothing extreme..just eating healthier and getting more exercise. I've kicked up my MMA training a bit, and am now splitting time between Alliance in Chula Vista and Throwdown in San Diego. Both places are great , and training is a lot more fun than running on a treadmill. If you have any questions about it, don't hesitate to drop me a line.
Other than that..I don't "diet." It's been years since I went on any kind of strict eating program. When I feel like it's time to ditch some chub, I just start eating healthier and following some personal guidelines.
#1 I make sure there is plenty of healthy and easy to prepare foods in the house. I know that I'm most tempted to eat bad stuff when I'm hungry, so I never let myself get hungry. Some things I like to have around are:
Plenty of healthy luncmeat.
Fruit and vegetables.
Hard boiled eggs.
Lean beef jerkey or turkey jerkey.
A few healthy frozen meals (although I try to avoid eating those often)
Big bags of chicken breasts from Costco.
Low fat cottage cheese.
I also have some "protein shake" mix and healthy snack bars (my favorites are the South Beach Diet ones)
#2 I never skip breakfast
#3- I eat three meals and at least two snacks per day.
#4- I drink a lot of water. How much? I don't know..just jeep drinking it all day.
#5- I limit my "processed carbs" at dinner. Which means I eat vegetables, salads, etc. But rarely have pasta, bread etc. The exception is brown rice.
#6- I don't follow any of these ruled perfectly nor do I expect myself to. (especially on weekends.)
That's it in a nutshell. Whenever I follow those guidelines and mix in some exercise, it works for me. Any that's what's important..finding what works best for you!
My week in Eating- I just covered this didn't I? Actually Lindsey and I ate at Gordon Bierch on Friday Night. That place is always solid, and they have a brand new menu! The bar-b-que'd salmon is the bizness. Yesterday morning we had brunch..at Souplantation! Who knew they had brunch?! It was actually pretty good to! Tonight I'm gonna make us a healthy stir fry since we both ate and drank like crap all weekend!
My week in tv- Not too much to report here other than sports. There was a decent UFC on Saturday. Shout out to San Diego's own Jason Lambert from North County Fight club. I didn't get the win, but he still made SD proud!
My Week in Movies- Buy "Shoot Em Up!" Okay, not everyone...but if you like over the top action (I'm talking Kill Bill over the top) you'll love this movie. It stars Clive Owen as the hero Paul Giamati as the villain and it's a FUN movie that most people slept on when it was in theaters.
My Week in Books- I read Mind Set by John Naisbitt. This guy wrore a non-fiction book (Megatrends) in the early nineties where he predicted a bunch of things that would change in the world over the next decade. He's not a psychic, he made his predictions by observing trends in society. Well allmost all the his predictions came true. He wrote another one (called "Megatrends 2000) in 2000 and it was astonishingly accurate. He feels he is able to spot such things, largely because of the way he looks at things. So in Mind Set he shares 11 mindsets that give a different perspective on the world around you. Really interesting stuff!
That's all I've got for now. Happy Martin Luther King Day.
Another week in the books!!
Well, here I sit after another week. I can honestly say that it feels good to be back to "normal." 2007 was a crazy year, and the little break we had over the holidays was a great way to get my mind right for 08. So in addition to getting the morning show back up and running, here is my week in review.
The highlight of my week: I trained with UFC fighter Brandon Vera!! My friends from Total Combat hooked up the training and it was awesome!! Brandon is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet and he is one hell of a teacher! If one of your New Year's Resolutions is to get in shape, I highly recommend checking out his Alliance training center. Speaking of my passion for Mixed Martial Arts, a new episode of our Total Combat Podcast will hit the net tomorrow. It will feature Ken Shamrock answering questions about fighting his brother Frank, his take on UFC head Dana White and much more! Total Combat head-honcho Diana Ocampo will give the details of our new tv show (VERY SOON!) and UFC powerhouse Jason "The Punisher" Lambert breaks down his upcoming fight at UFC 80! Check the net tomorrow if you're a fight fan!
My week in movies: I took in a very manly dvd and a very womanly one! Stardust is a fantasy love story that I freely admit is incredibly well done! If you are one of the many who saw missed it in the theaters, it is now out on DVD. The plot is a bit complex to break down here, but I'll tell you one thing: Robert Dinero plays a cross dressing pirate! My manly flick was the Kingdom. All in all I thought this movie was just okay. The performances were great and I liked the over-all message, it just was a little slow and cliche'd for me. If you haven't seen it, I'd say it's definately worth renting..but not buying.
My Week in TV: Not much new here for any of us. I do like the new American Gladiators though. As corny as it is, I think they found a good mix between capturing the essence of the original show and updating things for 2008!
My week in Reading: My main read for the week was Inside Delta Force by Eric Haney. Yup, I'm so hooked on tv's "The Unit" that I went out and bought the book that the show is based on. It's actually a fascinating account of the formation of our country's most elite anti-terror force as written by one of it's founding members. Obviously this one's not for everyone, but if you are one of the people who are thinking "that actually sounds pretty cool", rest assured IT'S COOL! Meanwhile, my wife has become obsessed with reading the works of Cecelia Ahern. It started with "PS I LOve You" which she swears is an AMAZING book that is 1,0000000000 times better than the movie. She is now onto "If You Could See Me Now" which she seems to be equally into.
My Week with the Wifey: All is well on the marriage front. I actually made the paper chicken that the Food Dude talked about on the show last night and it was pretty good! Tonight we're going out for a nice dinner and tomorrow it's off to the Clear Channel holiday party. Sunday I'll be doing the same thing as you...Go CHARGERS!!!!!!
