BACON WINS HOG CALLING CONTEST
In an interesting slice of irony, Jolee Bacon won first place Saturday in the
4-H hog calling competition at the Idaho Nez Perce County Fair. She has raised
several champion pigs for 4-H contests. Bacon says she calls pigs every morning
and night with her 9-year-old daughter, Jacey. Bacon won the crown over as she
started her hog call with a few loud snorts and a long, drawn-out "sooey."

DRUNK MOTHER #949-209-20-2
An Oklahoma City mother was charged Monday with child neglect after neighbors
found her 3-year-old son wandering around the parking lot of their apartment
complex with beer in his bottle. Rose Adame, 32, was so intoxicated she could
not stand June 21st when police arrived at her apartment complex. According to
court papers, she even tried to grab the beer-filled baby bottle so she could
drink it. Adame later told police she had been sick and drank about a dozen
beers. Two neighbors spotted the boy and called police. Adame faces up to life
in prison and a $5,000 fine if convicted.

AJ Files- Padre Hooter Girls ?!
Rookie Padres Took Some Hazing. Brutal.
Some members of the San Diego Padres endured a little hazing following their game against the Colorado Rockies Wednesday. It involved an interesting change in uniforms.
The Padres rookies were dressed up in "Hooters" outfits, and seen in public at the Denver ChopHouse and Brewery.
A FOX 31 News viewer snapped the photo of the Padres rookies following their 1-0 loss to the Rockies at Coors Field.
The viewer says that one of the Padres' veteran players went into the
establishment first, to check to make sure it would be okay if the
rookies went inside... dressed as they were.
The sight of the Padres rookies certainly raised some eyebrows in downtown Denver.
San Diego's next game was scheduled in Washington, D.C. against the Nationals Friday, September 19.

MOTHER'S MILK TO HIT A RESTAURANT MENU
Here's a taste treat you've most likely had before, but don't
remember.... A Swiss restaurant is stirring up the culinary community by
announcing it will serve meals cooked with human breast milk. Owner of
the Storchen restaurant, Hans Locher, said his specialities such as meat
stew and various soups and sauces will contain at least 75% of mother's
milk. Locher attracted the attention of the media all over the country
this week after he posted ads looking for women donors, who will receive
five and a half dollars for 14 ounces of their breast milk. Locher
says mother's milk always needs to be mixed with a bit of whipped cream,
in order to keep the consistency. While food control authorities never
thought they would have to rule on mother's milk, it's not on the list
of banned species such as ape and primate milk.

TEXTING WHILE DRIVING WORSE THAN DRIVING DRUNK
According to studies done by the Transport Research Laboratory, texting
behind the wheel is more dangerous than driving while under the
influence of alcohol or marijuana. The study was carried out using
young drivers aged 17-24 using a simulator that clocked reaction time
behind the wheel. The test found that while drivers were writing or
reading text messages, their reaction time slowed by 35%. In
comparison, reaction time deteriorated by 21% for those under the
influence of marijuana, and by 12% at the legal alcohol limit. The lab
also found that steering control worsened by 91% for those who were
distracted by texts, compared to 35% when marijuana was involved. The
tests also showed that texters were less able to maintain safe distances
from other cars and they tended to drift out of their lane more often.
Nearly half of all drivers aged 18 to 24 admit to texting while driving.

SUCK IT PETA! PLANTS HAVE FEELINGS TOO!
Aspirin is one of the most popular pain remedies used by people, but it
turns out that plants like it, too! Researchers at the National Center
for Atmospheric Research were surprised to discover that stressed plants
produce an aspirin-like chemical that can be detected in the air above
the plants. The chemical may be a sort of immune response that helps
protect the plants, the scientists speculated. The finding raises the
possibility that farmers, forest managers and others may eventually be
able to start monitoring plants for early signs of a disease, an insect
infestation or other types of stress. As it stands now, one doesn't
know the plant is stressed unless there is some kind of outward sign
such as brown or droopy leaves, for example. Previous studies have shown
that plants being eaten by animals also produce chemicals that can be
sensed by other plants nearby. In addition to having an immune-like
function, the chemical may be a means for plants to communicate to
neighboring plants, warning them of the threat. The new findings,
announced Thursday by NCAR in Boulder, Colo., were published in the
journal Biogeosciences.
