General]
wassup people!
jus thought i wanted to share how things have been goin. newaize, much of yall kno im an x-ray student, but only some of yall kno i started working my 2 week night rotation on monday. i never thought i would wanna work a night shift ever, but after these last 3 days, its really changed my perception of things...
1 - The People!
night crews are a whole different bunch at the hospital. most of the people that work nights are hella chill. mainly cuz they arent the general '9 to 5'ers that people get used to. these night shifters are the ones that like to stay up late sleep in even later, and arent so uptight like some morning people (not speaking for everyone, but just from much of my experience). generally speaking, its a completely different vibe around the hospital when the night crews step in.
2 - The Management! (or lack of!)
most of the big wigs that like to push their weight around and love to test their power work the day shift. now, im not saying that all day shift managers or leads are like this, but i have had my experiences (and ive heard much more!). newaize, with less restrictions and supervision, you can do your job without having to worry about people constantly breathing down your neck. the techs ive worked with the last couple days are definitely less stressed in comparison to working with day shifters.
3 - The Hours!
at least for me... im not much of a 'morning person', so im starting to love being able to sleep in till whenever and still get to work on time. getting off at 10 and getting home at 11 isnt so bad because i stay up late all the time newaize. waking up at 9am as opposed to 5:30am is definitely nice. and even if i had errands to run, i dont have to be at the hospital until 2 newaize, plenty of time to get things done in the morning. and if i wanna go out during the week, no problems at all. hahaha, besides, what better time to write blogs than damn near midnight newaize?
4 - The Pay!
usually night shifts earn a slightly higher pay differential than the day shifts, and in effect, graveyard shifts get an even higher differential. a few extra dollars for a later shift? count me in. but you'd be crazy if you think id work graves, even for a few more dollars per hour... im a late nighter, not a nocturnalist.
5 - The Energy!
i tend to be more energetic during the night than i am during the day. i find myself getting tired and lazy at times when things are going slow during the day, but not during the night shifts. i dunno what it is, maybe its cuz i didnt JUST wake up and go to work. maybe its cuz i had time to get the blood flow moving in my body. maybe its jus cuz thats how i am? iono, but whatever it is, im definitely having an easier time working a later shift.
i suppose if i had a girlfriend or kids at home that missed me because they never saw me, things would be different, but right now, i dont have either of those hovering over me. i can see why the night shift is less-desirable than the day shift for the majority of the population, but for someone in my position, bring it! id work night shift over day shift in a heartbeat!
k, enough of my crazy ranting. you can return to your normal lives now. =)
keep it ez people,
